There are a lot of places in the world that I miss desperately. There are a lot of places in the world that hold a special place in my heart. But nothing compares to a Minnesotan summer, nothing.
I swear I’m part fish sometimes, I would prefer to be on, in, or near water at all times (fitting I did Semester at Sea, right?). Good thing I live in the absolute best place for that sort of mentality.
If you didn’t know, Minnesota is nicknamed “the land of 10,000 lakes” even though we have close to 12,000 and boy do we love them.
“I’m at the lake” or “I’m at the cabin” or “I’m going up north” are three of the most common Minnesotan summer phrases. Although, nobody has ever really defined where ‘up north’ really is.
As a good average, I’d say I’m on the water about 5 days out of the week in the summer, sometimes more. Doing what, you ask? Swimming, reading, kayaking, paddle-boarding, wake-surfing, jet-skiing, boating, and the list could go on.
Honestly, when you only get 3 GOOD months of boating or lake weather, you have to take advantage… and sadly those days are coming to an end. Now that we are past Labor Day, the great Minnesotan summer is fading out and fall is creeping in.
The Great Minnesota Get Together, AKA the best 11 days of the year, is over and school is now in session. We are now at the point in the year when half the lake days are spent in a swimsuit and half are spent under a big ole blanket and sweatshirt.
But before we fully commit to fall, I wanted to share some pictures as to WHY Minnesotan summers are the absolute best.
