Oh hey!
Raise your hand if you’re behind on blog posts!
Yes, I know, both of my hands are up. But here’s the deal, I’m back in business with my best weapon: reliable WiFi (woohoo)! AND I have the worlds most embarrassing pictures to make it up to you.
So let’s not waste any time, shall we?
I left you in dire suspense of what would happen next in our grand South African adventure (those of you who found out on Instagram, you luck ducks)! So it’s time to pick that adventure back up…
Day 2: Mossle Bay
Alright, here we are, Mossle Bay, about to sky dive. Morale is climbing after a VERY early wake up call to go swim with the big scary fish. Half the group is shaking with nerves and the other half is bouncing around with excitement.
Guess which group I was in.
Yeah, the second one, shocker right?
So it went like this: 10-minute safety briefing (short right?), excitement, excitement, interview, excitement, get in-plane, jump out of said plane, even more excitement.
Okay, fine, I’ll give you a bit more…
So like I said, I was bouncing around, THRILLED to be there. Guys, I’ve wanted to do this my whole dang life! My dad and I even made a deal that for my 21st and his 50th we would go together, well sorry dad I jumped the gun!!
Most people wrote “hi Dad, sorry Mom” but I just had to take this opportunity to mock my dad… I have to take every opportunity I can get, okay.
So we prepared to jump out of the plane, with these sick outfits. I thought we looked like freaking Ghost Busters in those things!!!
So, we climbed up into the (TINY) plane, with our instructors. Mine was Allen, he rocked, even look at his shirt! Always good to have God on your side, especially when you’re about to jump out of a plane.
In the plane ride up, it never once for a second freaked me out that we were going to jump. To be honest, we were high enough that I didn’t really put two and two together that we were truly that high.
And then just like that, without a moment of hesitation, we jumped (fell?) out of a perfectly good plane.
Turns out though, that well you can’t really control the faces that show up when you’re falling at such a speed. So I’m going to brighten your day (and probably darken mine for putting these out there) and show you how Josey and I looked mid-fall…
I have cheeks, okay.
Yeah, theres no good transition.
But HOLY NUTS, let me just tell you it was the coolest experience ever! I would do it again and again if I could! When we fell, it didn’t feel like we were falling at all. But my favorite part was when I pulled the parachute, the world became silent. I was lucky and got to jump at sunset, so the views were incredible too. There really was nothing like it, do it, you won’t regret it!
Day 3: Western Cape
So you’re probably thinking, this girl is crazy, why in the world is she doing all this stuff. Am I right?
Well, SURPRISE, I went bungee jumping too.
Morning of day three, we made our way alllllll the way to Western Cape to jump of the highest bungee jumping BRIDGE, in the world; a whopping 216 meters (707 feet) high.
We got all suited up and ZIP-LINED to the platform in the middle of the bridge. Yes, zip-lined. I know, it was fantastic.
At the platform, they (the workers) were blasting music and dancing around, having a great time. This is probably what kept morale so high for everyone. We’d dance around, watch someone go, cheer, and then wait to see how excited they were when they came back up.
So I got suited up…and by suited up I mean something got wrapped around my ankles… then it was my time to shine.
They bring you RIGHT UP to the edge, my toesies were hanging of the edge, and give you a count down… 3…2…1… BUNGEE!!! And you’re supposed to jump. Like I said, zero reservations. But I didn’t have much ground to stand on so my ‘jump’ was like 1/3 a jump and 2/3 a fall. But EITHER WAY, I LOVED IT!
Only for a second after I jumped did I process what I had just done. Turns out if my friends jumped off a bridge, I would too.
We all had the biggest post-bungee similes! If we would have had more time, we all would have gone again in a heartbeat. Even the most scared people loved it, highly recommend.
AND YOU THOUGHT I WAS DONE! Nope.
From bungee jumping, we headed all the way to Botlierskop for a safari. Well let me clarify, it was a 5,000-acre game reserve (which is basically like the animals have free roam, but they are enclosed to some degree).
Okay, but still, we climbed aboard our cool safari jeep-thingy, and made our way to find the animals.
Just look at some of what we got to see…
We didn’t see all of the big 5 (we didn’t get to see an African Leopard), BUT the scariest of them all were there.
All said and done, our 36 hour adventure was the most exciting two days of my life (thus far), I wouldn’t change a thing!
EVEN MORE FUN STUFF TO COME!!! (If you didn’t see South Africa pt. I click HERE)
Til next time,
Katelyn

I’m planning on doing SAS soon, and was wondering what company you used for the safari/sky diving?
Do you have some kind of master list?
Thanks!

Hey Annabelle!
That is so exciting, congrats! I’m working on a master list of all the companies I used, which I should have out in the next week or two. I’ll be sure to let you know! Until then, THIS is the company that we used for our South African adventures. SAS contacts/goes through Michael Bluestone with Adventure Capetown, so you can always ask for him! Let me know if you need anything else 🙂
